Here we are and there we go

Today ends days three of our Ireland trip of awesomeness. We are sitting here in the lobby of our hotel because the internet in our room is incomprehensibly impossible to get running, which is okay because you can also order Guinness in the lobby :) Actually, I haven't done that because the hotel bar is really expensive, but it's the thought that matters, I suppose.

Ireland Day One:

We got in to Dublin at about 9:15AM local time, after a flight that took approximately 12 hours in all (We left at 3 PM on monday). Not too bad a flight, either--they have little screens so we could watch movies (Star Trek!) and things like that. At any rate, got a cab to the hotel, checked in to the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in, summoned our energy and ventured out into Dublin proper. The city is filled with those classic row-houses that you see in movies about London, and there are walkways everywhere (Mostly because people walk, the reason being the traffic--we're getting there) so walking around is really easy. We wandered about for three hours or so but then suffered so much jet lag that we barely made it back to the hotel before falling asleep (At 4!) for the evening.

Ireland, Day Two:

Lots of walking today--we wandered up to the Temple Bar area, which is where a lot of pubs and restaurants and shopping is, and also we saw the Book of Kells. The Book is a scribed version of the 4 Gospels written in the early 9th Century, so you can imagine how my bibliophilia was crying out in pleasure--bri was quite entertained as well, though all the old books have quite a musty smell which can bother the more sensitive of nasal passages (read: Bri's nose), so we exited there are spent some more time walking Dublin proper. We could have taken a bus, I suppose, but the traffic here is quite frankly terrifying, and also everything is less than 5 miles from everything else, so we may as well walk. Everyone driving on the left side of the road is one thing, but the lack of signage and their overall lack of concern about minor things like pedestrians, merging, or remaining in one lane at any one given point in time results in making merely crossing the street a Herculean endeavour at times.

Ireland, Day Three:

We went to Maynooth today! It's like a suburb of Dublin, except not in the normal suburb sense since we could literally walk the length AND breadth of the town in less than 3 hours. Bri insists that we didn't walk the entire town, but we certainly saw lots of interesting bits. We had a drink in the Roost--a Pub that Bri frequented when she was an exchange student there. A very interesting place indeed.

Okay, nothing more interesting or exciting to report--hope everyone is doing well and enjoys this brief rendition of our adventures in Ireland. Bye now.
