it's november!

Clearly, we are not great at posting to blogs, but I figured I would make a short update. (this is Bri)
Nothing new has really been going on. Scott still loves his job, I still have a ton of law school stuff to do, but the semester has really flown by and I'm looking forward to the holidays and to a little reprieve. I'm also applying for internships for the summer, so if you know of anything.... :)
Scott goes to Branson next week for his first release, which is exciting! except that it's in Branson and over my birthday...but still, exciting!
Other than that, we seem to be pretty boring people :D

Here we are and there we go

Today ends days three of our Ireland trip of awesomeness. We are sitting here in the lobby of our hotel because the internet in our room is incomprehensibly impossible to get running, which is okay because you can also order Guinness in the lobby :) Actually, I haven't done that because the hotel bar is really expensive, but it's the thought that matters, I suppose.

Ireland Day One:

We got in to Dublin at about 9:15AM local time, after a flight that took approximately 12 hours in all (We left at 3 PM on monday). Not too bad a flight, either--they have little screens so we could watch movies (Star Trek!) and things like that. At any rate, got a cab to the hotel, checked in to the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in, summoned our energy and ventured out into Dublin proper. The city is filled with those classic row-houses that you see in movies about London, and there are walkways everywhere (Mostly because people walk, the reason being the traffic--we're getting there) so walking around is really easy. We wandered about for three hours or so but then suffered so much jet lag that we barely made it back to the hotel before falling asleep (At 4!) for the evening.

Ireland, Day Two:

Lots of walking today--we wandered up to the Temple Bar area, which is where a lot of pubs and restaurants and shopping is, and also we saw the Book of Kells. The Book is a scribed version of the 4 Gospels written in the early 9th Century, so you can imagine how my bibliophilia was crying out in pleasure--bri was quite entertained as well, though all the old books have quite a musty smell which can bother the more sensitive of nasal passages (read: Bri's nose), so we exited there are spent some more time walking Dublin proper. We could have taken a bus, I suppose, but the traffic here is quite frankly terrifying, and also everything is less than 5 miles from everything else, so we may as well walk. Everyone driving on the left side of the road is one thing, but the lack of signage and their overall lack of concern about minor things like pedestrians, merging, or remaining in one lane at any one given point in time results in making merely crossing the street a Herculean endeavour at times.

Ireland, Day Three:

We went to Maynooth today! It's like a suburb of Dublin, except not in the normal suburb sense since we could literally walk the length AND breadth of the town in less than 3 hours. Bri insists that we didn't walk the entire town, but we certainly saw lots of interesting bits. We had a drink in the Roost--a Pub that Bri frequented when she was an exchange student there. A very interesting place indeed.

Okay, nothing more interesting or exciting to report--hope everyone is doing well and enjoys this brief rendition of our adventures in Ireland. Bye now.

law review

For anyone that heard (or did not hear), I was selected for the Missouri Law Review this summer after I entered the writing competition. Since most people don't actually know what that means, I put a selected part of the Wikipedia article on law review below to explain the "prestige" of being on Missouri's main journal, haha. Mainly, it just means that I'll be working my butt off the entire year writing notes and comments in an attempt to get published :)

In other news, I'm back in Columbia now (yay!!!!) and we got our marriage license today (wooo!).

Wikipedia says:

"The primary function of a law review is to provide a vehicle for academic publishing in the field of law...Many law reviews also publish articles written by law students, normally called "notes" and "comments." Law review articles serve an important purpose in that they express the ideas of legal experts with regard to the direction the law should take in certain areas. Such writings have proven influential in the development of the law, and have frequently been cited as persuasive authority by the United States Supreme Court and other courts throughout the United States. However, this influence may have been diminishing over recent decades.

Law reviews also provide necessary background research to legal practitioners. Student-written articles in particular, which may not be able to influence judicial opinions to the same extent as professionally written articles, add to the legal discourse primarily by providing concise and well-researched background material on distinct legal issues or particularly important cases.

Almost every major American law school publishes a law review. Generally, each school's law review, also referred to as the "main" or "flagship journal", publishes articles dealing with all areas of law."

two more weeks, then one more week after!

Hey all, it's Bri.
Just wanted to let you know, if you didn't already, that I'm coming back to MO on July 28th, instead of August 1st, like previously scheduled. I know it's only about a 4 day difference, but I'm excited!

That means almost 3 weeks to the wedding! Yay! My mom got the wedding programs in the mail yesterday so there really are few things left to do when I get back. Although, if anyone wants to have a bow-tying party at our apartment for the favors, let me know. I'll get some wine and we will have at it :)

Other than that, just chugging along in DC!

Miss you guys

the red line

Hey all,

I just noticed Marie's comment about not posting--and Scott told me that many people were concerned about the Red line incident--so I thought I would fill you all in.

I take the Orange line that goes from Prince George's County in MD into and out of DC everyday, so the crash didn't affect me very much. There were definitely quite a few delays, but I think the Metro tried to keep it quiet for a while. There were signs all over the stations saying that the Red line was heavily delayed, but no explanation, and it wasn't until I got online that I saw the damage. It'll take several weeks to clean up, because of the investigation into the cause, so there are a few girls at my job that have to walk to work.

Other than that (and the sad news of Jon and Kate's divorce, which I shouldn't really care about, but do because I follow the show religiously), the summer has been somewhat uneventful. Last weekend, I had a bridal shower in Upstate New York because my grandmother and mom still have a great deal of friends there that can't come to the wedding. It was awesome food, as always, but I was only there for a day and a half and came home very tired from the 7 hour drive.

This weekend, I'm flying into St. Louis Saturday morning and leaving Sunday morning so that I can go to my best friend from high school's wedding. It should be a good time, and I get to see Scott for the first time in 6 weeks! He's also coming out to visit over the July 4th weekend, which we're both excited for. I haven't had a chance to do any sight-seeing yet.

I think the wedding planning is still under control. My mom has inherited the logistical stuff like telling Stephens about the final numbers, so all I have left is tying all the infernal bows on the favors when I get back and doing the seating chart. Only about six weeks to go now!

D.C.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I got (safely) to my aunt's house in Maryland. The drive was long, but fairly low-key since it was the weekend. I start work in D.C. tomorrow and Scott starts at NISC tomorrow, as well!
